LOVE LIKE GABE – THE RACEHORSE
In 2020, Tricolours Racing and Syndications became involved with the Love Like Gabe charity. James Moss, Director / Owner of Tricolours Racing, heard about the charity through his assistant who is a friend of Rachel’s. James had just purchased a beautiful yearling colt, and in syndicating the horse – he wanted to support the Love Like Gabe charity ongoing by donating / re-directing all monthly Tricolours Management Fees (paid by all shareholders in the horse) directly through to the Love Like Gabe charity. These monthly fees will be paid directly to the Love Like Gabe charity for the entire career of the horse. An incredibly generous gesture from James Moss. Like everyone, he was touched by Gabe Smith’s story
In addition, when the racehorse was syndicated, Rachel was gifted a 5% share in the horse by Tricolours Racing – with all costs associated with this share covered by Tricolours Racing. Some of Rachel’s friends purchased shares in the horse which was fantastic. A request was then made to the entire ownerships group for the race name of the horse to be registered as “Love Like Gabe”. Normally, all owners in a race-horse get to submit their own race name suggestions which then goes to a voting process. When the request was made, it was a unanimous decision by all the owners to allow the horse’s racing name to be registered as Love Like Gabe. A wonderful gesture from the ownership group to allow this. And of course his nickname is Gabe !
It is heart-warming to have a racehorse named in Gabe’s honour and we know there will be so much exposure and awareness raised for the Love Like Gabe charity throughout Gabe’s racing career.
A bit about Gabe the racehorse – he is now a 3 year old bay gelding. His sire (father) is Star Witness and his dam (mother) is Pasadera. Also, an interesting point to note in his breeding / pedigree – his great-grandfather is a horse called Lion Hunter – and of course we know that the Lion is so symbolic in relation to Gabe Smith. There is too much in that for this to just be a co-incidence. Clearly this horse was meant to come into our lives.
Our beautiful Gabe the racehorse is trained at Warwick Farm by one of the country’s best trainers - Joe Pride. Tricolours Racing has a very close association with Joe, and Joe trains many of the their horses. Gabe had his first two barrier trials in November, 2021 and he is now ready to head off to the races and commence his career. He is a big strapping boy, and he has the most beautiful, easy-going temperament and a very kind eye. Everyone who meets him, loves him.
